Understanding the PWCCA Charitable Trust Fund

History

The PWCCA Charitable Trust is a 501(c)(3) entity. Most contributions to the Trust are tax deductible for Federal income tax purposes. The trust is comprised of four parts: The Miner-Eischmann Fund, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Health Fund, the Myers Fund and the General Fund. Although this trust is not regulated by the PWCCA, the funds generated do benefit the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Anyone can make a donation to the Charitable Trust. You may make your donations to the PWCCA Charitable Trust and send them to Adrienne K. Saffell, PO Box 33, Versailles, KY 40383, 859-873-6330, e-mail address: anbsaffell@gmail.com

If you wish to donate via PayPal, send to: PWCCharitableTrust@gmail.com

Mission Statement

“The PWCCA Charitable Trust is a not-for-profit entity. It accepts donations from many sources, with most of the donations being deductible for the donor for Federal income tax purposes. The Trust funds are to be used for various charitable purposes related to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, including public education and research of health issues.”

Miner/Eischmann Fund

The PWCCA Charitable Trust was formed in 2001, when, after the death of Mary Miner, Mr. Gayle Eischmann donated a sizeable amount in Mary’s name. This donation was matched by his company.  After that first donation, Mr. Eischmann made several other generous donations. This fund is used for research, support and welfare of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, with a specific emphasis on education.  For, example, this fund donates $5,000 each year to the general scholarship fund of the U.S Veterinary School selected by the owner(s) of the Best of Breed Pembroke Welsh Corgi at the PWCCA National Specialty

Pembroke Welsh Corgi Health Fund

The second part of the Charitable Trust is the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Health Fund. This fund also sells Christmas ornaments. These ornaments are collector items designed by corgi artists. In 2003 Art Smith designed the first ornament. The remaining ornaments have been discounted. Their purchase price is not tax deductible.  Contact Ann Marie Buonanno, ambdvm@pacbell.net to purchase an ornament. The fund is donor-designated, i.e., the funds are disbursed from the Charitable Trust with the approval of the PWCCA Genetics Committee. To date, money has been given to the AKC Canine Health Foundation to be used for continuing research on behalf of the PWC. The AKC Canine Health Foundation has become the largest non-profit organization, which exclusively funds canine health research in the world.

Myers Fund

The Myers Fund was established by a donation from the Myers family and is to be used for research in the area of Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) in canines, specifically in the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.  For example, this fund has been used to assist in paying the cost to collect tissue and spinal samples for DM research at the University of Missouri. For information on receiving financial assistance for tissue donation for DM research, please contact Adrienne Saffell at 859-873-6330 or anbsaffell@gmail.com

General Fund

The final part of the PWCCA Charitable Trust is the General Fund. This fund is used to support other purposes as the Trustees determine to be appropriate, so long as those purposes are allowed under the Declaration of Trust. These have included peer education at the National Specialty and the Trust’s contribution to assist the PWCCA in the funding of the AKC Reunite trailer. In addition, bank charges, fees, and other administrative costs are charged to this account.

Trustie

It became apparent to the Trustees of the Charitable Trust that in order for the trust to make donations to various charitable purposes related to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, we needed more donations. In 2004 we launched our “Trustie” program. A bronze corgi was introduced at the PWCCA national specialty as our “Trustie.”

The bronze was created by the collaborative efforts of well known Corgi artist Art Smith and sculptor Ognian Yanakiev exclusively for the Charitable Trust. The Bronze Standing Corgi Figurine is numbered with a limited edition of 200. Each “Trustie” is a gift to individuals who donate a minimum of $350.00 to the Trust. (A portion of such gifts may be deductible for Federal income tax purposes.)  However, any amount is accepted.  The bronze is approximately 7½”H x 9”L.

Some interesting donations have come about these past years. Friends of a graduate of a veterinary school recently made a donation to the Trust and gave the bronze to the new veterinarian as a graduation gift. The Trust made a donation of a bronze to the AKC Museum in St. Louis during the Banquet at the National Specialty in 2005. This was the first corgi bronze that the museum had received. A group of corgi enthusiasts made a donation and used the “Trustie” on the new Best Veteran Memorial Trophy to be awarded at the PWCCA National specialty each year. There are many excellent uses for the Trusties --- for one’s own use, as a gift, or as a permanent memorial ---- while, at the same time, benefitting the Charitable Trust.

PWC Memorial Page

The PWCCA makes a donation to the Trust annually in memory of its deceased members. However, you do not have to be a PWCCA member to also make a donation in any amount to the memory of a loved one (human or canine). Your donation must include the name of the deceased (individual) and his or her kennel name, if appropriate. The name of the deceased will be mentioned on the Memorial page in the annual PWCCA Handbook.

Donations made for this purpose may be considered tax deductible for Federal income tax purposes. Donations and information may be sent to Adrienne K. Saffell, PO Box 33, Versailles, KY 40383-0033, email: anbsaffell@gmail.com, phone: 859-873-6330.

Matching Donations For Ukraine

We are, like so many around the world, devastated as we have watched and learned of the atrocities in Ukraine in recent weeks.  The Ukrainians are in great need of humanitarian assistance during and in the aftermath of these attacks on their country.

The PWCCA and the Charitable Trust are partnering to provide matching funds for donations made to the Charitable Trust earmarked to provide assistance to the citizens of Ukraine and their pets.  For each dollar donated through the PWCCA Charitable Trust for this effort, PWCCA and the Trust will each match the donations, up to $10,000, at a level of 50%.  That is, if you donate $50, the Trust will add $25 and PWCCA will add $25, making the total assistance $100 from that $50 gift.

We urge you to contribute to this cause!  Send your tax-deductible donation, payable to the PWCCA Charitable Trust, Attention: Adrienne Saffell   P. O. Box 33  Versailles, KY 40383-0033.  Make sure to indicate the funds are for Ukraine.
